Description

Studio portrait of Sergeant A. Stewart, killed in action during the First World War. Believed to be 750 Sergeant Arthur Oswald Stewart of Albion, Queensland. A salesman employee of Hoffnung & Co Ltd, Brisbane, prior to enlistment, he embarked with C Company, 25th Battalion on HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 29 June 1915. He was wounded at Gallipoli and rejoined his unit, then going on to fight on the Western Front. he was killed inaction at Pozieres, France, on 29 July 1916, aged 22 years.
