Description

Duc Lap, Vietnam. Informal portrait of Captain David Savage waiting to be evacuated to Ban Me Thuot, two days after he was wounded during the battle at Duc Lap Special Forces Camp between 23 and 26 August 1968. He is standing in front of a large pile of dicarded ammunition boxes and canisters, amongst which is an 81mm mortar barrel. To the right in the background is the purple canopy of one of the ammunition and water resupply parachutes dropped during the battle. On the far right are Montagnard soldiers eating their first real meal since the start of the battle. On the ground to the right is a body bag, probably one of a number of Montagnards killed during fighting.
