Description

Trier, Germany. Officers of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) receiving medals from General John J. Pershing, Commanding General of the AEF. Next to the General is one of his aides with a list of the men and their decorations. In the background a US artillery officer confers with a French artillery officer. The officers waiting to receive their decorations are wearing gloves with their gas masks on their right hip and web belts and pistols. The artillery officer (second from right) is wearing a badge of crossed cannons on his collar and has three chevrons on his sleeve, each one depicting six months of service. The next officer is wearing a caduceus on his collar, indicating that he is a medical officer, and the three next to him are infantrymen, wearing crossed rifles on their collars. These officers are all wearing one chevron on their sleeve, indicating six months of service. This is one half of a stereo image, the full image is held at P02693.012. (Donor M. Wolfer)
