Informal portrait of A5166 Warrant Officer (WO) Sinclair Sutherland Squiers, No. 77 Squadron ...
Informal portrait of A5166 Warrant Officer (WO) Sinclair Sutherland Squiers, No. 77 Squadron RAAF, of York, WA. Squiers was called up for military service on 9 April 1942, at the age of eighteen. He spent thirty three days with the 13th Battalion before transferring to the RAAF as an Aircraft Engine Fitter, later being selected for Aircrew Pilot training and receiving his wings on 20 September 1944. He was discharged in October 1945 and re-enlisted in 1947 as a driver. In January 1949 he began a Pilot's refresher course and in October 1950, he joined No. 76 Squadron before being posted to No. 77 Squadron in Korea in January 1951. On 14 February 1951, while flying a Mustang, he failed to return from a mission over enemy territory during a severe snow storm and was posted missing presumed killed, along with 22068 Flight Lieutenant Keith Clarence Matthews, also from Parkes. He has no known grave. (Donor R. Dunford)
