Studio portrait of Captain Julius August William Kayser, 12th Battalion, of Alberton, SA, two wound stripes on his sleeve. A schoolmaster prior to his enlistment on 27 August 1914, he embarked for service the first time on 17 September 1914 and the second time on 29 March 1916. Kayser was killed in action on 16 February 1917, in France, aged 39 years.
