Description

A complement of Gloster Meteor jet aircraft, which included fifteen Mk 8 fighters and two Mk 7 twin seat trainers, parked on the flight deck of the light aircraft carrier HMS Warrior, arrive in Japan. They had been ordered from England and delivered to Japan by sea. The RAAF had ordered Meteor aircraft to replace the Second World War vintage P-51D Mustang operated by 77 Squadron RAAF. The RAF serial numbers were then removed and replaced with serials in the RAAF A77 series. The aircraft are covered in a soluble protective grease (inhibitor) which was applied to prevent corrosion. Similarly, the jet engine intakes have been masked with coverings.
