Members of No 1 Squadron, RAAF, at a dinner- dance held at the house on Ridout Road of Mrs L W Geddes, one of a group of ten local women who had clubbed together to provide hospitality to Australian servicemen, once a month. During the evening the airmen joined in a 'sing song' around Mrs Geddes' white grand piano, where this portrait was taken. Identified personnel are: 300153 Corporal (Cpl) (Later Flying Officer) Clarence Henry Blood (far right); 205622 Warrant Officer (WO) John William Kinder (2nd from right), who later died as a prisoner of war (POW) at Ranau (see P03129.002); 41850 Cpl Alec William Ivan Ross (3rd from right); 207782 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) (Later Cpl) Raymond James Bonnett (5th from right, with his hand to his head), who later died as a POW; George Collins (the tallest man in the group 2nd from the left). Others believed to be in the group are: 257723 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) (Later Flight Lieutenant) Gordon Carle De Gruchy; 300282 Cpl (Later Sergeant (Sgt)) Cyril Vincent Curzon-Siggers; Cpl Hughes; A31253 Cpl (later WO) Alvin Ernest Reschke; Cpl Ross; LAC's Burr, Coldrey, Collett, Crawford, Dennis, Dowling, Elliot, Harris; 6584 LAC (Later Sgt) David Knox Kyle- Little, who later died during operations; LAC's Paine, Skinner.
