Informal portrait of Major Thomas Roy McPherson, Officer Commanding D Company, 18th Battalion, astride his horse. Note the bell tents in the background. Major McPherson was killed in action on 22 August 1915 within minutes of the 18th Battalion's assault on Hill 60 on the Gallipoli Peninsula.
