A concrete emplacement near Bethlehem Farm, in the Messines sector, used as a cookhouse by the 57th Battalion. Note the dixies (containers) in which hot food was placed to be taken to the men in the front line trenches. The Australian troops almost invariably received at least one hot meal a day. Identified, left to right: 517 Sergeant E. L. Whiteman, Cook; 717 Private (Pte) R. W. D. Jones; 4064 Pte P. Geary; 3923 Pte W. A. Griffiths; 3393 Pte T. O'Loughlin. All are members of the 31st Battalion.
