Description
Dili, East Timor. 14 November 1999. Members of the 5th/7th Battalion (Mechanised), The Royal Australian Regiment (5/7RAR) standing in the well of an M113A1 Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), driving past the heliport, at the old Dili airfield. There are Black Hawk helicopters of the 5th Aviation Regiment on the runway and in the background, earth moving equipment of 17th Construction Squadron is repairing the taxiways. The fence is made from sticks and old pieces of corrugated iron. These units are all a part of the International Force for East Timor (Interfet). This is the airfield that was attacked by the 2nd/2nd Independant Company, who came down from the hills in the background, during the Second World War.
