Description

Informal portrait of Leading Seaman Marine Technician Graeme Hutchinson and Chief Petty Officer Coxswain Phil Morris, both of HMAS Brunei, standing at the base of the statue of Jesus Christ standing on a globe on the headland east of Dili. The statue was built by order of Indonesian President Soeharto and faces West toward both Jerusalem and Jakarta. It stands approximately 27 metres high, and was reputedly built to that height to emphasise that East Timor was the 27th province of Indonesia. HMAS Brunei forms part of the International Force for East Timor (Interfet).
