Description

Autographed triangular sling compiled in December 1941 by Lance Corporal T Loch of 2/5 Australian General Hospital while at a Prisoner of War hospital in Athens. The flag has been autographed by members of the British and New Zealand forces as well as by Australian soldiers.'PRISONER OF WAR HOSPITAL ATHENS' is written in a scroll at the top of the sling above a drawing of the 'rising sun' badge of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces. Below this are the flags of Australia and Britain. The words 'PALESTINE' and 'GREECE' are written in scrolls on either side of the flags. On the bottom of the sling a kangaroo and British lion have been drawn on either corner with 'L/CPL.T.LOCH. 5th A.G.H. 1941' written within scrolls in the middle. One of the Australians who autographed the flag was 'T.E. HAIGH NX2186 A.A.S.C. 6.DIV.'. Haigh died of illness while a prisoner of war in Germany on 25 February 1945. History / Summary

Associated with Lance Corporal Thomas Kirk Loch, a member of the 2/5 General Hospital who was captured in Greece and later imprisoned at Stalag V in Germany.
