Description
Lieutenant W O C Roberts, HMAS Murchison's Executive Officer, points out the hole punched through the steel door to Murchinson's engine room made by a Chinese anti-tank shell. On 30 September 1951 HMAS Murchinson's was patrolling the Han estuary in the Pall Mall passage when she came under heavy enemy fire from shore batteries. During this action several armour piercing shells passed straight through the ships hull and a 50mm shell exploded in the engine room without causing any serious damage.
