Description
A unit crest of the N Class Destroyer HMAS Nizam which served in the Royal Australian Navy during the period February 1941 - October 1945. Nizam was employed on patrol and escort duties in the Mediterranean, Indian and Atlantic Ocean areas. In April 1945, Nizam joined the British Pacific Fleet and was present during the assaults on Okinawa and subsequently was a unit of the Allied fleet in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrender was signed on 2 September 1945. After the war, she sailed for Sydney where, on 18 October 1945, she was paid-off, reverted to the Royal Navy and left for the United Kingdom.
