Group portrait of the Cooking Staff of the 1st Australian General Hospital. Identified left to right, second row: 17551 Private (Pte) William Edward Edmiston; 102 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Herbert John Catchpole; 3958 Pte Ernest Stanley Randall; Pte Daniels; L Cpl Davies; 9757 Pte Royal Theodore Leo Dredge; 12435 Pte Albert Edward Wilson. Front row: 1197 Pte Joseph Nichols Hansen; Pte Simmons; 575 L Cpl Albert Rosenlund; Sergeant Graham; 5326 L Cpl Arthur Parham Nugent; Pte Bird; 538 Pte John Henry Dando. This image was taken on the Racecourse track, the Church tent can be seen in the background. The Church tent was used for Divine Services. It consisted of a large store tent, floored with canvas and furnished with chairs, stove, harmonium, small chancel. The Australian YMCA and Australian Red Cross assisted in the furnishing. Chaplain T. McKeon (Church of England) and Chaplain Smith, Priest, worked together splendidly in these matters.
