Description

Studio portrait of Colonel (Col) Frederic Godfrey Hughes. At the outbreak of the First World War Col Hughes commanded the 3rd Light Horse Brigade and was appointed temporary brigadier general at Gallipoli. The brigade took part in the storming of the Turkish trenches at The Nek, on 7 August 1915. Hughes was evacuated to Australia in March 1916 suffering from pneumonia and typhoid fever.
