Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, October 1942. Informal portrait of three RAAF members of No. 2 Observers School, RCAF. Left to right: 411748 Leading Aircraftman (LAC), later Flying Officer (FO) Robert Maxwell Bryant, of Cowra NSW; LAC (later Flight Lieutenant) Donald Charlwood, of Melbourne Vic; and 412217 Sergeant (Sgt) Harold Waddell, of Sydney, NSW. FO Bryant was lost on operations on June 11, 1943 while flying with RAF 156 Squadron over Holland. He is buried in Amsterdam New Eastern Cemetery in the Netherlands. Sgt Waddell went missing on operations off the coast of France on February 8, 1943 while serving with RAF 44 Squadron. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial in the UK.
