Description

Informal portrait of the first Lancaster crew to survive thirty operations in eight months. Left to right: Frank Holmes, killed in action (KIA), 411440 Warrant Officer (WO), RAAF, Reginald Maxwell Burcher, No. 460 Squadron, from Armidale, NSW, Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Doug Richards, Maddern, who later earned the Air Force Cross and Distinguished Flying Medal, Ted Batten, Flt Sgt Don Charlwood, Arthur Browett. Burcher, a Wireless Operator, was wounded with this crew, and after recovering was killed, flying with another crew, in a battle over Germany on 30 July 1943.
