Formal portrait of Australian ex-Prisoner of War (POW), 1757 Private (Pte) Matthew Patrick Keogh, 13th Field Ambulance, from Maryborough, Qld. Pte Keogh enlisted at the age of 20 on 16 August 1915 and embarked for overseas on 14 October 1915 aboard HMAT Port Lincoln. He was captured at Pozieres, France on 31 August 1916 and held in German POW camps until he was transferred to Holland on 16 February 1918. He arrived in England on 23 February 1918 and after hospital treatment was returned to duty with the Australian Army Medical Corps in England. Pte Keogh arrived back in Australia on 22 September 1919. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London. Original album housed in AWM Research Centre at RC00864, Album image number 150.
