Outdoor portrait of two Prisoners of War (POW) at a German POW camp in Dulmen, Germany. Identified on the right is 2475 Private (Pte) Norman Leslie Watson, 30th Battalion, from Newcastle, NSW. The soldier on the left is unidentified. Pte Watson enlisted on 25 September 1915, at the age of 20, and embarked for overseas on 14 March 1916 aboard HMAT Anchises. He was wounded in the right leg and captured at Fleurbaix, France, on 20 July 1916 and held as a POW in various camps in Germany. After repatriation to England on 19 December 1918, Pte Watson was admitted to hospital with laryngitis. In February 1919 he was again admitted to hospital with influenza and then on 31 March 1919 he embarked to return to Australia. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London.
