Informal portrait of NX51278 Lieutenant (Lt) Thomas William (Bill) Roberts, 2/18th Battalion, of Parkes, NSW. A railway worker prior to enlisting in Forbes, NSW on 26 June 1940, he trained at Glenfield, NSW and was selected for officer training at the Royal Military College at Duntroon, ACT. He served in Singapore and Malaya where he was killed in action on 27 January 1942, aged 26. His brother NX58252 Signaller (Sig) Francis Joseph (Frank) Roberts died of illness as a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese, in a Tokyo POW camp, on 12 February 1944.
