Description
Studio portrait of NX51554 Private (Pte) Ignatius Alexander Francis Fabian 'Joe' Carr, 2/18th Battalion, of Parkes, NSW. He was a hairdresser prior to enlisting in Paddington, NSW on 27 June 1940 and served in Singapore, but was able to escape prior to its fall. It is likely he was captured in Java before sent to Burma as a prisoner of war (POW). He died of illness on 12 June 1943, aged 36, and is buried in the Thanbyuzayat Cemetery.
