Studio portrait of 421908 Warrant Officer (WO) William John (Bill) Cooper, RAAF, of Parkes, NSW. He was a teacher prior to enlisting in Sydney, NSW on 15 August 1941, after which he was posted to athe training camp for Spitfire pilots at Sale, Vic for six months, and then he was transferred to Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia with the Empire Air Training Scheme for further instruction. After completing his pilots training, he stayed as an instructor for six months before being posted to North Africa, joining 34 Squadron, RAF. He then joined 681 Squadron, RAF, and was reported missing in flying operations over India and presumed dead on 2 July 1944, aged 25.
