Informal portrait of NX32085 Private Edward Henry (Ted) Richards, 2/18th Battalion, of Parkes, NSW. He enlisted in Paddington, NSW, on 14 June 1940 and embarked for Singapore aboard the Queen Mary on 2 February 1941. He was killed in action, aged 32, in Malaya on 9 February 1942 when his unit was captured by the Japanese, he had remained with his gun until he had no ammunition left.
