Cutting a piece of bamboo using a bow saw is 6/1180 Sapper Lyle B Davis, of Box Hill, Vic, 1st Field Troop, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE). The sappers are clearing a 500 yard length of jungle in preparation for the construction of an airfield at Fort Tapong in Northern Malaya. Fort Tapong is a Malayan police outpost near the Thai border and is used by Australian and other Commonwealth troops as a stepping off point for jungle operations and patrols.
