Description
Using an axe to trim a log is 1/4428 Sapper Bruce H Best, aged 22, of Thangool, Qld, 1st Field Troop, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE). The sappers are clearing a strip of jungle 500 yard long and 50 yards wide at Fort Tapong in Northern Malaya in preparation for constructing an airfield. The sappers are using only hand tools and explosives to complete the job. Fort Tapong is a Malayan police outpost near the Thailand border and is used by Australian and other Commonwealth troops as a lay over camp for jungle operations and patrols.
