Abbeville, France. 23 June 1918. View of the entrance to the grounds of the 3rd Australian General Hospital and the guard room. The small trees were planted by Colonel Martin CMG, who was the pathologist of the unit at that time. The notice board on the left is in colour and is the work of Private G. Nelson of this unit. The notice on the other side near the guard room is in French and states, `Entrance forbidden without permission'. During the air raids a bomb fell about twenty yards along the drive just outside the white fence on the left side of the photograph, casualties would have occurred in the hospital if the buildings had been built flush with the road. The field on the right was leased by the hospital last year and a crop of potatoes was grown.
