Weston, Alan Wentworth (Sergeant, b.1904 - d.1987)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX57941 Sergeant Alan Wentworth Weston, 8th Division Signals, Borneo and Singapore, 1945.
Collection consists of:
1 x series of hand-written notes relating to a secret radio setup established in the camp Adam Park Camp, Singapore. The notes document how the soldiers bought two radios off civilian Chinese, the establishment of an underground room for listening to the radios, the recording of messages sent to civilian internees, and the transportation of the radio components spread across various prisoners to evade detection. The last part of these notes contains a written transcription of the announcement of the surrender at Kuching, dated 11 September 1945;
1 x modern, typed transcription of the hand-written notes; and
2 x typed contemporary transcriptions of the surrender at Kuching.
