42887 Private (Pte) John Vilius Didsman, of Port Elliott, SA, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), armed with his 7.62mm L4A4 Bren gun as he moves through a reinforced trench during a practice alert at an unknown company forward base in Sarawak near the Indonesian border. Pte Didsman previously served in Malaya and Singapore during the Malayan Emergency and later served in South Vietnam with 3RAR between 1967 and 1968 where he was wounded in action (WIA).
