A light horseman in his bivouac on a hillside in the Jordan Valley during July 1918. At this time the temperature was 120 degrees. The man has been identified as 2002 Trooper (Tpr) Hugh Robert Campbell, 4th Light Horse Regiment. Tpr Campbell, a twenty five year old storekeeper from Frances SA, enlisted at Melbourne on 12 August 1915. He embarked on HMAT A32 Themistocles at Port Melbourne on 28 January 1916 and returned to Australia on 15 June 1919. A pick, billycan, .303 rifle, slouch hat and jam tin are scattered about the recently dug hole. (Donated by Mr J A Henderson, ex 4LHR)
