Description
Essay (4pp, typescript, produced in 1936) by Mrs Rita Hilton (nee Duffy) titled 'Hands Across the Sea', summarising her letter writing scheme to Australian prisoners of war held in Turkish POW camps (Afion-kara-hissar and Hadjikiri) during the First World War. Included are responses to Miss Duffy's letters from: Lieutenant Leslie H Luscombe (14 Battalion), a short note and postcard from M J Troy (16 Battalion), two postcards from Keith Cahir (14 Battalion) and a card from G E Kerr (14 Battalion). Also held is a letter by Lieutenant Leslie H Luscombe to J W Eustace (dated 20 May 1917) detailing how Miss Duffy's letter was forwarded from Angora to other Australian POWs at Achangri and a Turkish 'Postal Censorship' leaflet.
