Description
Australian soldiers at Anzac, at either a temporary halt on a terraced section of a slope, or resting during its development with permanent dugouts. Note the unorthodox method of 'securing' two rifles on their 'earthed' bayonets, and the casualty being evacuated down-slope by three stretcher bearers. The scene may be at the head of Mule Gulley, between the Sphinx and Walker's Ridge, with the almost vertical slopes in the centre and right background being possibly those of the Sphinx. The lack of jackets would indicate that the photograph was likely to have been taken in the heat of summer 1915.
