Description

Outdoor portrait of 2152 Private (Pte) Richard Harwell Bryant, 15th Australian Light Horse Regiment. A linesman from Paddington, New South Wales, prior to enlistment in the 7th Light Horse Regiment on 31 November 1915, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Orsova on 11 March 1916 for Egypt. Pte Bryant continued to serve in the Egypt and Palestine area with the Light Horse and the Imperial Camel Corps. He was admitted to hospital on four occasions during the period from August 1916 to July 1918 when he was transferred to the 15th Light Horse Regiment where he served as batman to Colonel Mills who was in command of the regiment. He was admitted to hospital for a fifth occasion on 28 October 1918 suffering from dysentery and died of the disease on 4 November 1918 in No 32 Casualty Clearing Station, Beirut, Syria. He was aged 38 years.
