BATHURST CLASS MINESWEEPER/CORVETTE HMAS FREMANTLE. COMPLETED ON 12TH APRIL 1943 FREMANTLE SERVED IN THE NORTHERN AUSTRALIA - NEW GUINEA AREA AND ADJACENT WATERS FROM 1943 TO 1945. ON 30TH AUGUST 1945 SHE, WITH SIX OTHER RAN CORVETTES, SWEPT AHEAD OF A BRITISH SQUADRON WHICH ENTERED HONG KONG HARBOUR WHEN JAPAN CAPITULATED. AFTER THE WAR FREMANTLE WAS PAID OFF AND THEN REFITTED AND RECOMMISSIONED IN DECEMBER 1952 AND BASED AT FREMANTLE AS A TRAINING SHIP. SHE WAS PAID OFF IN MID 1959 AND SOLD IN 1961 FOR SCRAPPING IN JAPAN LEAVING FREMANTLE UNDER TOW IN APRIL OF THAT YEAR.
