Studio portrait of 2783 Corporal (Cpl) Roy Harold Boyton, 54th Battalion, of North Wagga, NSW. A farm hand prior to enlistment, he embarked as a Private (Pte) with the 9th Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion from Sydney on HMAT Argyllshire on 30th September 1915. After transferring to the 54th Battalion and attaining the rank of Corporal,, he was killed in action on 26th September 1917,aged 21, and was buried in the New Irish Farm Cemetery, Belgium. His cousin 2865 Pte Gordon Stanley Boyton was also killed in action.
