Description
Father and son, Captain George Herbert Somerville Cundy MC, and 402732 Flight Lieutenant William Ronald Cundy (later DFC DFM). Captain Cundy received the MC for gallantry during the First World War, when he served with the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment. He volunteered for service again in the Second World War, and served both as a training officer and a voyage officer. This photograph was taken when he visited the Middle East with reinforcements for the 9th division. Flight Lieutenant Cundy served in the Middle East with 135, 260 and 452 Squadrons, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Distinguished Flying Medal for gallantry and devotion to duty in bombing operations over Tobruk and the Middle East in 1943.
