Seated: Sergeant Fay, Corporal Harry Morant, Sergeant Langley, Sergeant-Major press, Sergeant-Major de Passey, Quartermaster Sergeant Francis, Farrier Sergeant G H Goodall, Farrier Sergeant Carter. Corporal Morant, later lieutenant, known as "the breaker" because of his horsebreaking experience, was court-martialled and executed in South Africa in 1902 for shooting Boer prisoners some of whom were responsible for the murder of his friend and fellow officer, Captain Hunt.
