Description
Motor repairs being carried out by Japanese mechanics at a base. Japanese prisoners of war (POWs) worked under the supervision of RAN personnel. Work on an RAN base commenced in August 1948. It was commissioned as HMAS Seeadler on 1 January 1950 and recommissioned as HMAS Tarangau on 1 April 1950. The name was transferred from the decommissioned RAN Base at Dreger Harbour, New Guinea.
