Description

Late party of Japanese prisoners at a base. Japanese prisoners worked in the War Criminal Compound under RAN supervision repairing engines and other mechanical equipment. Work on an RAN base commenced in August 1948. It was commissioned as HMAS Seeadler on 1 January 1950 and recommissioned as HMAS Tarangau on 1 April 1950. The name was transferred from the decommissioned RAN Base at Dreger Harbour, New Guinea. (NAVAL HISTORICAL COLLECTION)
