Description
A group of Turkish prisoners captured by the Light Horse gathered in the town. The first Amman raid was followed by a second attempt about a month later. The Arabs again promised cooperation, but failed to engage in the battle. Es Salt was brilliantly occupied by the 3rd Light Horse Brigade, but the British infantry attack at Shunet Nimrin failed, and the 4th Light Horse Brigade was driven from its covering position opposite the Damieh bridge across the Jordan. This enabled the Turks to throw strong reinforcements from Samaria into Gilead, and the raiding force, having again failed, withdrew to the western side of the Jordan.
