Description
Burma-Thailand Railway. September 1945. Japanese rail cars used by the War Graves Commission survey party. This group's task was to locate prisoner of war (POW) cemeteries and grave sites along the Burma-Thailand railway. They also took the opportunity to recover equipment and documents which had been secretly buried, by senior POW officers, in the graves of deceased POWs. Note the attap (palm leaf) roofing to protect against the rain and tropical sun. (Donor A. Mackinnon)
