Studio portrait of Major (Maj) Oswald Bruce Ryrie, 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment. A farmer from Yrimdle, NSW prior To enlistment, Maj Ryrie had previously served in the Boer War with the rank of Captain and embarked as a Second Lieutenant with A Squadron from Sydney on HMAT Star of Victoria on 20 October 1914, following his service at Gallipoli he was promoted to Lieutenant and Mentioned in Despatches. Subsequently promoted to Major, he returned to Australia on 22 August 1919.
