Informal outdoor portrait of an unidentified soldier standing beside the grave of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Hubert Jennings Imrie Harris, 5th Australian Light Horse Regiment (5ALHR), killed in action at Gallipoli on 31 July 1915. Harris Ridge, on the Gallipoli Peninsula, was named after Lt Col Harris during the 5th Light Horse Regiment's occupation of the area in June and July. After serving in the Boer War with the 2nd Queensland Contingent as a Lieutenant and later a Captain and receiving the Queens Medal with four clasps, Harris worked as an accountant and secretary before being appointed a Lt Col in the AIF on 28 October 1914. He embarked for overseas service as a 43 year old with the 5ALHR Headquarters from Sydney aboard HMAT Persic (A34) on 21 December 1914. After disembarking in Egypt, the 5ALHR was sent to Gallipoli without their horses in late May. Lt Col Harris is buried in Shell Green Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
