A reminder of home. This sign in the Western Desert done by a South Australian painter, SZ538 Sapper Leslie John “Doc” Dawes, 2/3rd Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers, is one of many such signs which the Australians erected to show that “It’s not far really”. Tea prepared in these parts tastes of chlorine and brackish water, cream cakes are unknown, so the signboard receives many an appreciative grin.
