Description
View of the port side of three Bell P-39D Airacobra aircraft, flying in formation over Australia. These fighter aircraft, seen with an American star on the wing and tail, belonged to the US Army Air Corps. 22 Airacobra's were delivered to the RAAF at the start of 1942, when combat aircraft were in short supply. In the period July 1942 to October 1943, 22 Airacobras were operated by the RAAF, notably in fighting against the Japanese around Port Moresby, New Guinea, before being returned to the US Army Air Force.
