Portrait of 47716 Flying Officer (FO) James Boyd Thyer, 75 Squadron RAAF, of Peterborough SA, who died after crashing after take off over Morotai on 19 March 1945. Eight aircraft took off on training shortly before dawn, but FO Thyer failed to join his section in the air and a search located a portion of his flying gear in the sea approximately two miles from the airstrip. He was reported as 'missing believed killed'.
