Outdoor portrait of 106 Edward Henry James Hanns, from Bourke, NSW, wearing the uniform of a driver in the Citizen Military Force (CMF). During the First World War he served with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front. He died of wounds on 20 July 1917 while a gunner with the 1st Brigade, Australian Field Artillery, and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, near Poperinge, Belgium.
