SYDNEY, NSW. C.1919. PORT BOW VIEW OF THE BATTLECRUISER HMAS AUSTRALIA (I) AS FLAGSHIP OF THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON AFTER WORLD WAR 1. THE SHIP FLIES THE BROAD PENNANT OF COMMODORE FIRST CLASS JOHN S. DUMARESQ RN, THE FIRST AUSTRALIAN BORN OFFICER TO COMMAND THE SQUADRON. THE SHIP DISPLAYS THE MODIFICATIONS MADE TO HER DURING THE WAR. ADDITIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO HER BRIDGE, A RANGE FINDER AND DIRECTOR TOWER HAVE BEEN ADDED TO HER FOREMAST, 36 INCH SEARCHLIGHTS ARE MOUNTED ON TOWERS AROUND THE SECOND FUNNEL AND THE ANTI TORPEDO NET GEAR HAS BEEN REMOVED.
