Seeking combat he transferred from an American Provisional Truck Company at Taylors Bay and later became attached to the 4th Australian Infantry Battalion and reported by letter to his American Commanding Officer. He is pictured at Sio Mission, Huon Peninsula, after a patrol showing Australian members of the battalion a Japanese officer’s sword acquired from his latest victim.
