VX135755 Private William Vernon Eccles, an orderly of the 15th Field Ambulance, is standing at the far end of the 12 bed surgical ward at the Advanced Dressing Station in Koropa, Ramu Valley. Bedridden patients are kept under nets to avoid mosquito bites that result in dengue fever or malaria. The ward has a steady trickle of battle casualties but many more cases of dengue fever and malaria.
